Get to know our new PTA board!
RuthEllen Bowen, President, has been with Kainalu for the last six years. Her oldest daughter graduated from 6th grade in 2008 and is now in the 8th grade at Le Jardin Academy. RuthEllen’s youngest daughter is in 1st grade at Kainalu. RuthEllen has volunteered as a room parent, SOKPA (chorus-supporting parent), Fun Fair, Book Fair, May Day, Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week, and Physical Fitness Day. RuthEllen was our PTA President last year and is also serving as the parent representative for Kainalu’s School Community Council (SCC).
Kathie Vanskike, Vice President of Membership, is at Kainalu for her second year. She has a 2nd grader and a 6th grader. Kathie also has an 8th grader at Kailua Intermediate. She has volunteered in each of her children’s classrooms since her oldest started kindergarten and also in the school library of her children’s previous elementary school. This is Kathie’s first year serving on a PTA Board and she is looking forward to a successful and rewarding year working among the parents and faculty at Kainalu Elementary.
Bouchra Benotmane, Co-Vice President of Fundraising, is a proud stay at home mom with two students at Kainalu E.S. She has helped with Fun Fair, Book Fair, Chorus, Special Friends, May Day, Jog-a-Thon, Classroom activities, Kinder K.A.M.P., and more. Bouchra believes that parent-family involvement in any way and form is extremely important to our Kainalu Dolphins and to our school.
Teddi McEwen, Treasurer has been with Kainalu for the past 3 years. Prior to moving to Kailua, she served as PTA Treasurer for Lincoln Elementary School in Redondo Beach, CA for 2 years and Financial Secretary for 1 year there. She has two 6th graders and a 1st grader attending Kainalu Elementary. She teaches “Kids yoga” as part of the afterschool program and volunteers when needed for classroom and PTA functions such as Fun Fair, Book Fair, Physical fitness day.
Malika Scott, Secretary, has been with Kainalu for the last three years. Her four children now in headstart, kindergarten, 3rd and 4th grades at Kainalu. Malika has volunteered as a room parent, SOKPA Secretary, Fun Fair, Book Fair, May Day, Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week, and Library renovation.
PTA National Membership Drive
September is the PTA's National Membership Drive month. As our membership grows this year, we are building strength in our numbers, so that policy makers at the local, state and national levels will hear a strong and unified voice on behalf of our children. By joining, you would become part of an informed team of individuals who will work on behalf of all children at Kainalu Elementary.

PTA Meetings
PTA meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 5:30 p.m in Room G17. Whether you choose to join the PTA or not, you are always invited to attend our meetings.
