Free and Reduced
Free and Reduced lunch applications are being sent home with each child. Those qualifying for the program according to the income criteria on the application form are urged to submit their applications as soon as possible. These applications must be re-submitted every year.

Meal Time - Electronic payment system
Meal Time is Kainalu's electronic meal paying system. This eliminates the need for students to carry money to pay for breakfast and/or lunch. Student meals are paid for in advance to the office. See Lunch and Breakfast Prepayment section below for more details.

Student meal payments are collected in the front office until 10:30 am.
Things to remember about paying in advance and account balance:
- A minimum of $5-10 payment is preferred (2 weeks of lunch). Cash or check is accepted.
- If paying with a check, please make check payable to DOE.
- Accounts are checked daily for balance.
- If there is a negative balance in a child's account, a parent will be notified that day.
- One lunch loan is allowed after which a special lunch will be provided.

Snacks brought from home
Students are allowed to bring snacks from home, but HEALTHY SNACKS and DRINKS are encouraged. Due to health concerns, students are not allowed to share snacks and lunches. Snacks may be eaten during morning recess (1st recess). Lunchtime is for eating a nutritious meal. No snacks are to be taken to the cafeteria or to after-lunch recess (2nd recess). Cookies or other desserts brought with home lunches are allowed after eating the main meal.
